Scott Craig
National Legislative Committee Member - Army

Scott J Craig II enlisted in the United States Army in 2006. He served for 7 years as an Airborne Infantry Mortarman until he was medically retired in 2013.

After infantry and airborne school, he headed to Germany and served in B Troop, 1-91 RSTA 173rd Airborne Brigade. There, he fought for 15 months in Nuristan Afghanistan at Camp Keating, where he received his Purple Heart after suffering a gunshot wound in the Battle of Saret Koleh. During that deployment he earned his Combat Infantryman Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal, NATO medal. Meritorious Unit Commendation  He followed on with a short stint in 2nd Brigade of the 82nd Airborne for the Global Response Force. Then, he moved to Fort Polk, LA to deploy to Baraki Barak in Logar Province with C Co 2-30 IN 10th MTN. He earned his second Afghan Campaign, NATO, and ARCOM medals. In a mortar attack during his last week of a 12 month deployment, he was injured helping a fellow service member get to cover, leading to his medical retirement.

His association with the Army was not finished as his wife, Kristine Craig, was also on active duty. He followed on serving on booster clubs as an Army spouse, and focused on raising his children Morgan, Syril, and William. He studied Political Science and Computer Science with UMGC while stationed overseas again and the University of South Carolina after PCSing to Shaw AFB, SC when his wife was assigned to USARCENT. At USC, he served as the President of the Student Veterans Association.

Scott and his wife joined the VFW as life members in 2023 after Kristine’s retirement from active duty, when they settled in Lexington, SC. He serves as the Junior Vice Commander and Buddy Poppy chair of Post 8738. He now serves as the State Legislative Chair and as a National Legislative Council member.
