Nick served on active duty as an Air Defense Artillery Officer and Public Affairs Officer from 1971 to 1992 retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.  From Vulcan platoon leader, to HAWK battery commander, to Ass't Inspector General of the US Army Air Defense Center and School, to PAO of the 2nd Infantry Division and Commander of an Armed Forces Radio and Television network in Italy, Nick served in various command and staff positions throughout his 21 years of service.
In civilian life, he became a middle school teacher and finally a school Principal of an elementary school in Marlboro Twp, NJ, and retired and moved to SC in 2015. 
He was All-State Post Commander of Post 10804 from 2017 to 2019 and has served as chairman for Community Service since 2018.
